INSOCOAT bearings

  • Electric motors, generators and related equipment are at risk when current passes through the INSOCOAT bearings. This can damage the contact surfaces of rolling elements and raceways in bearings (galvanic corrosion) and rapidly degrade the grease.
  • Another risk for motors and generators comes from the high frequency currents caused by the inherent stray capacitance. The risk of damage is increased in applications where inverters are used.
  • INSOCOAT bearings are designed to prevent current from passing through the bearing. They are coated with an insulating aluminum oxide layer on the outer surface of either the inner or outer ring, using a sophisticated plasma spraying process to achieve excellent surface finish quality.
  • This solution is very cost effective compared to other insulation methods.

  • The standard assortment of INSOCOAT bearings listed here constitutes the most commonly used sizes and variants of:
  • Single row deep groove ball bearings
  • Single row cylindrical roller bearings
  • For bearing types and sizes not listed in the product tables (Deep groove ball bearings, Cylindrical roller bearings), contact SKF.
  • For applications where smaller bearings than those listed are needed, SKF recommends using SKF Hybrid bearings.
  • In addition to the standard assortment, SKF can supply special INSOCOAT bearings and bearing units with complex ring geometries, such as:

Features and Benefits

  • Protection against galvanic corrosion
    With insulation characteristics integrated into the bearing, INSOCOAT bearings can improve reliability and increase machine uptime by virtually eliminating galvanic corrosion problems.
  • High resistance
    The aluminum oxide coating has a minimum resistance of 200 MΩ and can withstand voltages of up to 3 000 V DC.
  • Consistent electrical performance, etc.
    Ionic spray coatings are usually hygroscopic and therefore prone to penetration due to condensation. To prevent this effect, INSOCOAT bearings are treated with a unique sealant.
