NoWear coated bearings

  • NoWear is a wear-resistant carbon coating that can be applied to the rolling elements and inner raceways of bearings (type suffix L7DA) or to the rolling elements only (type suffix L5DA).
  • The physical vapor deposition process applies a wear-resistant carbon coating. The thickness of the coating ranges from 1 to 3 μm, depending on the size of the bearing. The hardness of the coating is 1 200 HV10.
  • The NoWear coated bearing surface retains the toughness of the underlying material while incorporating the hardness, improved frictional properties and wear resistance of the coating.
  • During break-in, minute amounts of coating material are transferred to the opposing surfaces. This coating reduces friction and improves resistance to wear and dirt, even in bearings–NoWear coated bearings  where only the rolling elements are coated.

  • NoWear coated bearings are not suitable for use in vacuum or other completely dry running applications. The coating does not act as an oxygen barrier and is therefore not recommended as a corrosion inhibitor.
